As an undergraduate, I was part of an advanced honors program as part of the UB Honors College. It was so helpful. Through the program, your professors really take notice of you, and they gave me offers to do research with them. I never realized I could get to choose!
In my junior year I also won a summertime scholarship to conduct engineering research on nanomaterials. I worked on thin films and even helped design an electromagnet. I studied with some of the best engineering minds in the country, including Alexander Nikolaev, my advisor.
Honors pushes you academically to take intensive courses and exposes you to multiple areas to study. You get a kind of experience you don’t get otherwise.
