Prepare to Apply During Secondary School

Applying to university is a process that begins earlier than you may think. To help you plan and schedule your time, here’s a list of what you need to do to prepare before you graduate from secondary school.

Three years before graduation:

  • Explore and discuss colleges that offer majors in your areas of interest.
  • Start studying for standardized tests such as the TOEFL, IELTS, SAT and/or ACT.

Two years before graduation:

  • Explore colleges in more depth and begin to visit colleges and attend college fairs in a city near you.
  • Early fall semester: Register for and take the TOEFL or IELTS tests.
  • Spring semester: Register for and take the ACT and/or the SAT if they are available in your area.
