Transfer Application Documents Checklist

To apply to the University at Buffalo as a transfer student, please collect, prepare and scan the following materials. You will need to save them on your computer and then upload them during the application process.

Academic materials

We need an electronic copy of your official transcripts from every college and university that you have ever attended.

If you have a student copy of your transcript, you can scan it and upload it to us using the SMART supplemental form.

If you cannot get a paper copy, try accessing your grades through your school’s website. Then take a screenshot of your grades (make sure it includes your name) and save it to your computer.

Translations

Any document written in a foreign language must include an English translation.

Have 24 credits or fewer?

Students who have earned 24 college credits or fewer must provide secondary school grades in addition to all of the materials listed on this page.

Note about transfer credits:
If you are transferring from a foreign university, you may want to collect course descriptions and syllabi from the classes that you have already taken and bring them with you when you arrive on campus. This will help your academic department determine if the classes you took there can be applied toward your degree at UB.

English proficiency

You can fulfill the English proficiency requirements by submitting a passing test score or by qualifying for one of our exceptions.

Accepted Test Scores

  • TOEFL
  • IELTS
  • PTE Academic
  • SAT I
  • ACT

Standardized test scores

Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) are NOT required for transfer admission.

Be Honest

When you apply to the University at Buffalo, you must be honest at all times. Be sure that all documents and information that you submit with your application are correct and accurate. You are responsible for everything that is submitted with your application, even if someone else helps you to complete it.

Withholding or omitting information and documents or giving false information may make you ineligible for admission, subject to dismissal and/or be ineligible for transfer credit.

If you are applying to the dance, music, theatre or music theatre programs, you may be required to audition before being admitted to the program. For information on supplemental requirements or to schedule an audition, you may contact:
