Bridge Admission may be offered if you do not qualify for Standard Admission. Each case is reviewed individually and in conjunction with other criteria (grades, academic performance, personal essay, etc.).
In order to meet the conditions of this admission you will be required to complete the following steps:
Submit a complete application for degree study using any one of our approved application methods. Provide all required application materials including your best English proficiency score, even if it is below our minimum requirements.
If your application is denied due to a low English proficiency score, you may be offered the chance to qualify for Bridge Admission.
Apply to ELI on your own and enroll in the Intensive English Program. The application and more information can be found at: https://www.buffalo.edu/eli. Your I-20 Form (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status) will be issued to you by ELI.
Enroll in UB's ELI-IEP. While you are studying in ELI, contact our office to inform us that you would like your application for admission to UB to be reconsidered.
If you successfully complete the program, you will not need to submit any further proof of English language proficiency and can be admitted to UB for bachelor’s degree-level studies. Your I-20 Form will be updated to reflect your new status as an undergraduate student at UB.
Please note that if you do not successfully complete ELI-IEP, you cannot be reconsidered for admission to UB without a higher English language proficiency score.
In addition to meeting these English language requirements, you will also need to demonstrate your academic proficiency for admission to the university.
