Early On-Campus Housing Move-In

The University at Buffalo’s on-campus housing officially opens for new students on January 28, 2018. However, new students who will attend International Student Orientation can make arrangements to check in to their on-campus housing starting on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. EST.  You can sign up to check-in early on the housing website.

The schedule for early check-in for the remainder of the week is below:
Sunday, January 21: 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Monday, January 22 - Tuesday, January 23: 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, January 24 - Friday, January 26: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, January 27 - Sunday, January 28: 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Please note that students who choose to move in prior to January 28 will incur a $35 per night early arrival charge, depending on their actual housing assignment.  This charge will be billed directly to your student account.

If you choose to stay in on-campus housing between January 20 and 28, 2018, please be aware that the residence halls and apartments will not be officially open and, therefore, there will be few students staying there and only a limited number of staff members to assist you.

You should also be aware that you are contractually obligated to your on-campus housing for the entire term of the Housing Agreement (or Contract). For Academic Year Agreements, you are obligated until the end of May.  For Full-Year Agreements, you are obligated until the end of July. Housing contracts are typically broken only if the student leaves the University at Buffalo.

On-Campus Housing Room Assignments & Cancellation Deadline

Information about your housing assignment (location, roommate, check-in dates and times) will be sent to you in late December. All housing information is sent electronically to the e-mail address you provided when you submitted your housing deposit. If you do not receive your housing information by Friday, January 5, 2018, please feel free to contact the Housing Office by telephone at (716) 645-2171 or by e-mail at CampusLiving@buffalo.edu. You may also visit the check-in website after January 1 for more information about check-in, including exact dates and times the Campus Living offices are open.

The deadline to cancel your on-campus housing is December 1, 2017. After December 1, 2017, you will not be released from your housing contract unless you choose not to attend UB during the Spring 2018 semester. Please do not sign a lease for an off-campus apartment after December 1, 2017 as you will not be released from your on-campus Housing Agreement.

Students Who Will Live Off-Campus

If you will live off-campus and still need to find housing or will live on-campus but not during International Student Orientation, we urge you to make temporary housing arrangements prior to your arrival in Buffalo. We do not recommend arriving on campus with lots of luggage and no place to spend the night as it is very difficult to find permanent housing in one day.

Should you need temporary accommodations prior to January 20, 2018 or during International Student Orientation, your options include staying in a hotel or with a friend, relative or UB student.

The hotels listed below are located near UB’s North Campus. The prices listed are subject to change.
