Appointed as the 15th president of the University at Buffalo on April 18, 2011, Satish K. Tripathi was officially installed at a university-wide ceremony on Sept. 23, 2011. Carl T. Hayden, Chairman of the State University of New York Board of Trustees, and SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher formally invested President Tripathi with his new office, symbolized by their presentation to him of UB’s silver presidential medallion.
The formal investiture of Satish K. Tripathi brought together the members of the extended university community around the world to celebrate the start of a new chapter in UB’s long and distinguished history. A milestone that signaled much more than the official beginning of a new presidential administration, the investiture of UB’s 15th president was an occasion for the university and all the communities it serves—locally and globally—to honor UB’s proud past and celebrate its vast potential for the future. Faculty, staff and students both past and present joined in this university-wide celebration, as well community leaders, elected officials and institutional partners across the region and state, representatives of national and international learned societies, foundations and professional organizations, and delegates from universities and colleges around the world.
Founded 165 years ago as a small private institution with a mission to serve the citizens of Buffalo, UB has since grown into a nationally distinguished public research university whose impact is truly global in scope. The largest and most comprehensive university in the State University of New York system, UB is also a member of the Association of American Universities, the prestigious group of 61 leading research universities in North America. While remaining true to its core public mission, UB also has greatly expanded its scope and deepened its impact over the decades as it has grown into a major global public research university of the 21st century.
As UB’s 15th president, Satish K. Tripathi is committed to
building on the university’s strong foundation of academic
excellence and leadership, while further expanding its reach and
impact. As our university community celebrates his
investiture, we join him in pursuit of this vision and reaffirm our
commitment to contributing to the greater public good through the
knowledge, discoveries and ideas we contribute.
Building on a strong foundation of academic excellence, UB celebrates a new era of leadership and vision with the investiture of Satish K. Tripathi.
