UB’s American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) attended the conference and showcased its steel bridge that placed third at the regional level and 12th at the national level in 2018. Experts were given a chance to examine the team’s bridge, and students had an opportunity to make connections with the conference attendees.

Other students within the Department also attended the conference along with faculty members Pinar Okumus and Darrell Kaminski. Okumus, an assistant professor in the Department presented research she conducted with MS students Lissette Iturburu Altamirano and Animesh Kumar Dutta and UB alumnus Mauricio Diaz Arancibia, PhD, 2018.

According to Okumus, the work she presented focused on “analytical evaluations of load distributions in corroded girder bridges, residual capacity of girders with section loss and the implications of section loss assumptions on load ratings.”

In addition to the UB faculty and students who attended the conference, a member of the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering’s advisory board, Wahid Albert, PE, was a featured speaker at the event.
