The University Unit Requirements for Graduation section lists the Overall Units (120), and Units taken in Residency (30) required for graduation.
When viewing the Academic Advisement Report, if there is a requirement that has not been completed, the plan will display the areas that have not been completed in bold type and will include the words Not Satisfied.
Under the Grade column, transfer courses will most likely appear in the same Term (Semester) and be identified with a “T” in front of the grade. For example, TB-.
The Academic Advisement Report (AAR) header contains:
> The date the report was requested
> The name of the student with their ID (Person Number)
The header will appear at the top of each page in the report.
The Program and Requirement Term section located below the header contains Student Records information from the student’s Program/Plan.
The Program column contains the student’s Career, Program, and Plan.
Career = Undergraduate, Graduate, etc.
Program = Decanal Unit, School
Plan = Major, Minor
In our example, this student is in the Undergraduate Career, in the College of Arts & Sciences Bachelor Program, as a History INT (intended) BA major.
The Course History section lists every course a student has completed in their Academic Career chronologically (from oldest to most recent).
After a Course Title there may be a Repeat Code. In our example, the student has (RNOG) after their first taking of ENG 201LEC course, and (RGPA) after their second taking of the course. These codes identify if a student has repeated the course, etc.
The Repeat Codes are defined below:
RGNC = Repeat for GPA Non Credit
RPRG = Repeat with Permission GPA
RPRN = Repeat with permission No GPA
RGPA = Repeated Included in GPA
RNOG = Repeated, Excluded from GPA
REXP = Repeated, No Units or GPA
The Courses Used table displays the following:
The Term (Semester and Year) when the course was taken, the Course Number, the Course Title, the Course Grade, the Units (Credit Hours) associated with the course, and then the Type of Course
The Library Skills section identifies whether or not a student has completed every component of the Library Skills Workbook with a passing score, or if they’ve completed the Library Skills Course.

General Education Requirement section.
The University GENERAL EDUCATION is a Career level, University requirement. A course may be used in the General Education and again in the major and/or minor, but will still only be counted once toward total units.
Writing Skills Placement: placement is being programmatically identified based on the student’s SAT or ACT score as determined by the Writing Composition program.
Writing Skills: this is the actual requirement where a student is required to take ENG 101 and ENG 201, or ENG 102.
Mathematical Sciences
> Recommended Placement: identifies the recommended Math placement in relation to a student’s SAT or ACT score.
> Mathematical Sciences: lists the courses that could satisfy the Mathematical Sciences Requirement.
World Civilizations
Complete two courses:
> UGC 111 - World Civilizations 1
> UGC 112 - World Civilizations 2
In our example the requirement is Waived. The explanation as to why the requirement has been waived is displayed.
Natural Sciences
> The text included is directly from the General Education section of the Undergraduate Catalog
> See next screen shot to view other courses used to satisfy this requirement.
Other Natural Science sequences that will satisfy the Natural Sciences requirement.
Natural Sciences: Nursing and OT majors
-Nursing and OT Majors: Anatomy
-Nursing and OT Majors: Physiology
-These will only display once a student has completed courses applicable to this requirement.
American Pluralism
When this area is not satisfied, the student will be allowed to choose from the American Pluralism course or one of the Cognates.
In this example that selection has disappeared as the student has completed a course equivalent to UGC 211.
In our example the student is waived from the requirement
Social and Behavioral Sciences
Complete one Course/3 Units (Credit Hours)
Language Requirement
The requirement a student sees in this area is dependent upon their major. For example, Nursing does not require students to complete language study. As a result, this student receives the Language Requirement Notice as opposed to the actual Language Requirement.
Humanities
> Satisfied by Writing 1 Sequence: as determined by University policy. This area is merely verifying that the sequence was completed.
> Humanities: this area will display until the Writing 1 Sequence is completed, or until a student completes a Humanities course.
Arts
Complete one Course/3 Units Required
Depth
> Until a student has completed 1 of the Depth areas, every area will display.
> Once a student has completed a Depth Requirement, that area will be the only requirement that displays.
Depth Requirement (continued).
Courses Not Allocated to Major, Minor, or General Education Requirements (Course Pool)
This section lists courses that have not been applied to a particular requirement. It is also the section that gathers the elective credits sufficient to meet the total hours for the degree.
> For example, once a course has been repeated, the original taking of the course will be listed here. Courses with the grade of “F” will be listed in this area as well.
> This is usually going to be the area where you identify courses that may be used for exceptions.
Major Requirements
Next you will see the student's Plan(s). This could be a major only; major and a minor; or several majors, etc. If there is a requirement (RG, RQ, LN) that has not been completed, the Plan will display the areas that have not been completed in bold type and will include the words Not Satisfied.
The Plan requirements have been structured in a lock-step manner if it is appropriate as determined by departmental instruction or degree requirements. However, other Plan requirements have more fluidity as determined by departmental instruction or nature of the degree requirements.
Nursing is a lock-step program; so their requirements have been laid out to accommodate the structure of this plan.
Some Plans require additional GPA requirements; these have been identified within the majors.
Course Type codes:
EN = Enrolled (at UB)
TR = Transfer
TE = Test
IP = In Progress
IT = International Transfer
OT = Other Credit
The Academic Advisement Report (AAR) provides the results of the academic degree requirements against a student’s current program/plan or a what-if scenario. By requesting an Academic Advisement Report, you can see whether a student has satisfied degree requirements or how the student’s current courses may fit into a different degree program.
There are two versions of the AAR; one is the web-based interactive version, while the other is the printable-PDF version. They produce the same results in different formats. For this period of time and for this sub group of newly admitted Transfer Applicants we will be using the WHIF (What-If Report) type and we are using the XML version. The following will describe how to evaluate the report results of the PDF version of the AAR.
Acceptance Criteria for the respective Plan is displayed first.
The Acceptance Criteria Overall GPA section is displayed on the next page.

These components are included in the Academic Advisement Report:
> Course History
> University Requirements for Graduate
> GPA, Unit (Credit Hour) Count
> General Education Requirements
> Courses Not Allocated to Major, Minor or General Education Requirements (Like the Course Pool)
> Major Acceptance Criteria (If student entered major after 2008)
> Major Requirements
> Additional Major Requirements (if applicable)
> Minor Requirements (if applicable)
> Certificate Requirements (if applicable)
In our example the student's Requirement Term information is as follows:
Undergraduate Career Requirement Term = Fall 2010, the student was admitted into the undergraduate career for Fall 2010.
Arts & Sciences Bachelor Program Requirement Term = Fall 2010, the student was admitted into the College of Arts and Sciences for Fall 2010.
History INT BA Major Requirement Term = Fall 2010, this is the catalog year, the student is an Intended History major as of Fall 2010.
University GPA Requirements for Graduation section lists the Overall (combined) GPA, University at Buffalo GPA, Transfer GPA with the Quality Points and Units Attempted associated with each. (These will not be on the interactive report as of today.)
With the population of Transfer Applicants you will not see Quality Pts and Units until student matriculates but you can see this information on the Transfer Credit Summary report.
The University Requirements for Graduation section displays the university undergraduate limits for the following types of coursework: S/U, Tutorial, Athletics, ESL/ULC and UE141.
