Several UB graduate and professional degree programs have been cited as among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of “America’s Best Graduate Schools” released today.

Three graduate programs at the School of Nursing were rated among the best in the country. UB’s nurse anesthetist program rose in the ratings to 10th in the nation. The program was previously ranked 17th.

In a new ranking, UB’s doctor of nursing practice (DNP) was cited as one of the nation’s best (38). The master’s in nursing leadership and health care systems also entered the U.S. News ratings as one of the best in the country (75).

“Preparedness for leadership is fundamental to providing quality care and advancing the profession of nursing, said Marsha Lewis, dean of the School of Nursing. “Our programs are designed to educate nurse leaders in clinical practice preparing qualified nurses in clinical specialty areas such as nurse anesthetist, as well as adult, family and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner — research and administration. We are proud to be ranked among the best."

The Graduate School of Education rose five spots — to 71 from 76. This was the fifth consecutive year the school finished in the top 100 in the magazine’s ratings. GSE’s online programs also remained top-rated, rising in the U.S. News rankings to 41 from 71.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is ranked among the top programs in the country (22). The School of Public Health and Health Professions also remains top-rated (31).

The School of Management is ranked among the top 100 business schools (81) for the sixth straight year. The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (61) received its eighth straight placement among the top 100 engineering schools in the country.  The UB Law School (100) is again rated among the nation’s top law schools.

While all graduate programs in the humanities, social sciences, sciences and health sciences were not ranked by U.S. News, many UB programs and schools in these disciplines are ranked among the best in the nation.

These include graduate programs in fine arts (69), English (44), clinical psychology (50), library and information studies (39), history (92), political science (76), psychology (63), social work (27) and sociology (78), as well as programs in audiology (17), biological sciences (115), chemistry (76), computer science (63), geology (88), mathematics (73) and physics (85). Graduate programs in pharmacy (22), occupational therapy (32), physical therapy (79) and speech-language pathology (30) also have been ranked as among the best by U.S. News.

The U.S. News graduate school rankings are based on surveys of administrators at more than 1,900 programs and more than 18,400 academics and professionals conducted during the fall of 2015 and early 2016.

The online rankings were based on five categories: student engagement, student services and technology, faculty credentials and training, admissions selectivity and peer reputation.
