Education:

  • PhD, Social Welfare, University of Washington, 2011

Professional experience:

  • Assistant Professor, Social Work, University at Buffalo

What mentoring means to me:

I had (and still have) a wonderful relationship with my doctoral mentor. I want to pay that forward. In addition to academic issues she also helped me cope with some difficult personal circumstances both during my PhD and early years as a professor.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Academic Culture

  • Dealing with politics and conflict with faculty or peers.
  • Decoding and demystifying academic culture and norms.
  • Uncertainty about staying in grad school.

Personal Experiences

  • Caregiving for children.

Patricia adds: Foster care and adoption.

  • Caregiving for other loved ones.
  • Experiences related to being a woman.
  • Experiences related to mental health and/or abilities.
