Staff members are key players in the Gender Institute's success, serving on our Executive Committee, providing advice as Affiliates, helping to conceive and develop programs, contributing to mentoring and education, and participating actively in our events.
In recognition of the value and importance of mentoring, the Gender Institute inaugurated an Excellence in Mentoring Award in spring 2016. The institute seeks to promote and recognize excellence at UB in mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty at all ranks. We are particularly interested in recognizing the achievements of mentors with a strong record of success in cultivating the professional potential of women, LGBTQ people, people of color, first-generation college students, and students from low-income backgrounds. The award will include a certificate of recognition and a $500 research or travel fund.
The Gender Institute awarded its first Excellence in Mentoring Awards to Susan Cahn, Professor of History, and Letitia Thomas, Director of UB-STEM Diversity programs.
