Fire and Life Safety

EH&S provides a variety of fire & life safety services:

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control performs annual inspections of facilities on campus for violations of the State Fire Code. Inspections begin in the Fall, and followups are conducted at the start of the new year. The most common violations are the improper use of extension cords.
EH&S conducts building evacuation drills in accordance to the New York State Fire Code. In addition, each building is required to have a Building Fire Prevention and Evacuation Plan.
EH&S provides and maintains dry chemical and CO2 fire extinguishers in all state buildings on each of the campuses.
EH&S reviews and inspects work or activities whenever there is a potential for a fire to develop. In some cases, a Hot Work Permit or Fireworks Permit may be required before such work or activities can begin.
To use a tent at UB, review the tent requirements and complete the tent space request form. Create a map with the location of the event circled. Attach the map to the form as indicated. Please note that we must receive your request at least 10 days prior to the event.
Collected on these pages are a variety of videos that promote fire safety.
A three-year program to update the AED program at UB will begin in the Fall of 2015. Starting on the South campus, existing AED's will be replaced with smaller, lighter units. Replacement of the North Campus AED's will take place in 2016 & 2017.
