Bloodborne Safety

In order to reduce or eliminate the hazards of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, an employer must implement an exposure control plan for the worksite with details on employee protection measures. Also, individuals must have the appropriate training to work with such materials.

Training

EH&S provides a 1.5 hour class which meets the regulatory requirement of OSHA and PESH bloodborne pathogens standard for individuals with job duties that could cause them to come into contact with blood or other potentially infectious fluids. To sign up for the class, please complete the form below. After submitting the form, a confirmation email will be sent.

Bloodborne Pathogen Standard Compliance Tool

This document is to be used as a template for your workplace exposure control plan, but you must tailor it to the specific requirements of your department. This template contains all elements required by the blood borne pathogens standard, so you should not eliminate any items when converting it for your own use. Your written plan must be accessible to all employees, either on-line or in an area where they are available for review on all shifts. You can access the full text of this standard through the OSHA website  by using the alphabetical index (click on “B” for bloodborne pathogen standard).

About this tool:

This bloodborne pathogen plan was developed by EH&S in accordance with the OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030, and is intended to be used by Departments, Labs, and Centers (DLC) as a template for their individual Plans. While there is much valuable information contained in this template, the key parts are unique to each DLC and need to be modified and regularly updated for the Plan to perform as intended.
