Office of Economic Engagement

UB President John B. Simpson has announced the creation of a new Office of Economic Engagement (OEE) as a key component of the university's goal, through UB 2020, to achieve the university's full impact as an economic engine.

Led by Vice President for External Affairs Marsha S. Henderson, the Office of Economic Engagement will serve as a gateway for the regional and statewide business community, facilitating ready access to the programs, services and faculty expertise available at UB, with the end goal of significantly improving the economic vitality of the region and the state. OEE will be a convener for the wide array of UB's academic and service units that regularly interact with business and industry. In addition, the office will coordinate the university's initiatives in workforce and business development in the community, and will provide support in the university's efforts to increase the participation of minority and women-owned business enterprises in its procurement, contracts and services. The OEE is evidence of UB's ongoing commitment to fueling a strong knowledge economy in our region and state.

The Office of Economic Engagement is in a formative stage, identifying its specific goals, work plan, staffing, and space needs. Selected activity is already underway in both the business services and workforce development sectors of the office. It is expected that the office will be staffed and fully functional by spring 2010.

“The University at Buffalo is committed to being an active and engaged partner in our community, a good neighbor as well as a positive catalyst for change.”
