UB's diversity is our strength.  Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) can assist with strategies to develop diverse and talented applicant pools, as well as training for search committees.

Equal Employment Opportunity

UB is committed to ensuring equal employment opportunity to all qualified individuals.  The University believes a diverse workforce will enhance its ability to fulfill the mission of education, research, and public service.  It is expected that all positions will be filled through a competitive search, unless there exists a compelling reason for a recruitment exception, in accordance with the Recruitment Policy and Recruitment Exceptions Policy

UB encourages proactive initiatives to increase diversity and provide equal opportunity to all applicants and employees.  A competitive recruitment process includes the sourcing, screening, and selection of employees and promotes equal opportunity by informing potential applicants of job vacancies within the University.

What does Equal Employment Opportunity Mean?

Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) is the concept of providing access to employment opportunities to all persons without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, pregnancy, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, predisposing genetic characteristics, marital status, veteran status, military status, domestic violence victim status, familial status or criminal conviction status.

As a Hiring Department or Search Committee member, EEO means that you should consider and select applicants for hire in accordance with laws and University policy prohibiting discrimination based upon the protected characteristics listed above and consult with University Human Resources, UB Immigration Services, and EDI as appropriate for assistance and advice.

In addition, Hiring Departments and Search Committee members are required to assist in the implementation of the University Affirmative Action Plan when recruiting prospective employees by exercising good faith efforts for meeting established commitments to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action goals.
