Information for Transgender Students and Employees

  • Gender identity and gender expression are included as part of UB's Discrimination and Harassment Policy.  This provides protection against discrimination and harassment.
  • You can contact EDI confidentially for information and assistance in interfacing with supervisors, colleagues, instructors and classmates.
  • Hormone therapy, primary care and surgical care may be available through student health insurance or employee plans.
  • UB has single-stall restroom facilities available.
  • Contact EDI if you require additional assistance or accommodations.

Information About Using a Chosen Name

We understand that the ability to use a chosen name instead of a name assigned at birth is important for our transgender students and employees.  UB's Working Group for Transgender Inclusion is in the process of developing a means of having your preferred name appear on student rosters and directories.  There are changes being made to the HUB student system that will soon give students the option to input their own preferred name online.  Until self-service is available, please contact EDI to find out more information about what options may be available for you.

Reporting Discrimination

If you believe you have been discriminated against or harassed based upon your sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, you can file a report with EDI.  We will consult with you to determine how you would like to proceed.  If you choose to have your concerns investigated, EDI will conduct this investigation through the procedure described in the Discrimination and Harassment policy.
