The Central Sterilization Technician program is designed to provide classroom instruction to a non-experienced student in the competencies required to obtain employment as a Certified Central Sterilization Technician. The program will address various topics related to the cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient equipment.

Central Sterilization Technician Core Competencies
|This course introduces fundamental principles, practices, and issues common in healthcare professions. In addition to the essential skills, students will explore the roles and functions of the central service department, safety regulations, state and federal regulations, methods of quality assurance, material safety data requirements, and the purpose of a procedure manual and organizational structure. Competencies include decontamination, preparation and packaging, inspection, sterilization, and storage of patient equipment.||180|

|This course introduces the fundamental principles, practices, and common issues in the heatlcare professions and establishes policies and procedures regarding effective communication and listening skills. In addition to the essential skills, students will explore various delivery communication styles and methods. Students will also utilize the ATTAIN lab software program on Inroduction to Communication to reinforce classroom instruction.||30|
MADM 1100 Professional Development
|This course intoduces common issues, procedures, policies and the various healthcare professions. Students will also utilize the ATTAIN lab software program on Introduction to Healthcare to reinforce classroom instruction.||30|
|CALS 1010 Job Readiness To Career Success||Job Readiness to Career Success focuses on "real world" workplace scenarios that employers have identified as the soft skills needed for entry-level jobs. This course actively engages students through role playing, group activities, and discussions. Upon completing the course a Soft Skills Certification Exam will be administered.||5|
|Medical Skills Preparation||The Medical Skills Preparation lab is designed to provide the students with information regarding healthcare expectations. The topics within this program will include drug and alcohol testing, criminal background checks, healthcare professions, customer service requirements, building rapports with others, how to handle difficult on the job situations, critical thinking techniques, and conflict solutions. Software is available in the ATTAIN lab for the Medical Skills Preparation course.||4|
|Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation||This course is designed to provide the student with basic life support techniques that can be utilized in an emergency situation.||4|

As a healthcare professional, you will be expected to adhere to accepted standards of appearance and hygiene in class.
Uniform scrubs and comfortable sneakers are required. Facial piercings must be removed, nails must be kept short (fake nails and polish are prohibited).
Students are required to provide an up-to-date Health Physical Examination form which includes an Annual Influenza and PPD screening, Tetanus vaccine (within th elast 10 years), Meningogoccal vaccine, Varicella immunization, Visual Acuity and the entire HEP B 1, 2 and 3 vaccination series.
Make appointments to obtain medical records during the summer in anticipation of admittance into the allied health program.
Students must be in good physical condition and able to perform low to high lift (11 - 20 lbs), carrying, pulling, pushing (11-20 lbs), frequent walking, climbing stairs, stooping, reaching and pulling & pushing carts.
Note: If you are not immune to the Hepatitis virus, this process will take up to 6 months to complete. Students must comply with the above requirements prior to externship placement.
Daily attendance is mandatory. 100% is expected. You are expected to maintain attendance as if you were in an employment situation.
Q: Why is Medical Skill Preparation Lab a prerequisite?

A: Within healthcare, patients rely on the caregivers to provide good quality care. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of the population that we serve, punctuality is essential. The program is designed to build these skills.
Q: Why must I submit a completed health physical examination form to include immunizations?
A: Center for Disease Control requires that all healthcare professionals are immunized to prevent the spread and/or acquiring a communicable infection.
Q: What immunizations are required within healthcare?
