Saturday (9:00 am – 5:00 pm)

The Program

The Security Guard Training program is designed to introduce students to emergency response procedures, crime scene prevention, legal authority of security officers, and loss prevention and proper use of force.  Other topics include the security code of ethics, fire prevention, report writing and public relations.  This course will require eight hours of participation.

Prior to completing the 8-hour course, students will receive training from our Customer Service Program. This will provide instruction on various topics related to customer relations:  Basic Customer Service Skills, interpersonal skills, organizational communication and computer skills.

After successful completion of the 8-hour course on Saturday, a certificate will be issued to the student with their security guard application.

Prerequisites

  •  All BEOC students will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend classes in-person, according to a mandate from the state, or submit requests for an exemption based on medical or religious grounds.
  • Meet TABE requirements (6.5 Reading/ 5.2 Math)
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency

What to Expect

The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. Topics covered in this course include the role of the security guard, legal powers and limitations, emergency situations, communications and public relations, access control, and ethics and conduct.

Earn Your Certification

Upon successful completion, students receive a New York State Security Guard Registration Card.

 

Post-Training Interview

Upon completion of training, students will have the opportunity to interview with a security guard company. This company is hiring for a variety of positions including seasonal, part-time, and full-time opportunities. Students can schedule a mock interview with Career Services to prepare for this interview or in lieu of a professional interview. Career Services will also be offering 1:1 resume assistance to all students who complete this program.
