I am writing to provide you with an update on the status of the search for the dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The search committee has been very active during the past two months developing the advertisement for the position and the position profile. The advertisement for the dean’s position is available in the January 13 edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education and on-line. In addition, a website that includes the dean’s profile is available at: http://www.buffalo.edu/engineering-dean.

Our search consultant, Dr. Ilene Nagel, has been actively recruiting qualified candidates for the position, and following up with individuals who have been nominated. As communicated previously, we would appreciate input from the campus community in identifying strong candidates for dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Please send your nominations directly to Dr. Nagel at inagel@russellreynolds.com. Each nominated candidate will be contacted and requested to submit their CV for consideration. Although we plan to conduct an open process, all candidate identities will be confidential until the time of final campus interviews.

We anticipate that we will begin reviewing applicant credentials the last week of February and we have every expectation that our search will produce a robust pool of excellent candidates for the position. As the search continues to move forward, I will provide periodic updates regarding our progress. I thank you for your interest and support of this important process.

Sincerely,

Alexander Cartwright
Chair, Search Committee, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
