The 14th Dalai Lama at the University at Buffalo

Promoting peace across borders through education

The Visit : September 18-20, 2006

About the visit

The University at Buffalo is proud to host His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the fall as part of our 2006-07 Distinguished Speakers Series. The visit on September 18-20, 2006, by His Holiness, who is the head of state in exile of Tibet and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, is an unprecedented event for the university and the local community. It will give greater prominence to UB's vibrant Asian Studies Program and our many institutional and academic ties to Asia. The primary purpose of the visit by His Holiness is educational, and will include audiences with UB students and faculty, as well as the awarding of a State University of New York honorary doctorate in humane letters to His Holiness. An interfaith service with representatives of local religious communities also is planned. This is a truly great honor for the university, and a meaningful opportunity for our academic community and the larger communities we serve.

The many expectations of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visit are voiced in the latest UB Today, the alumni magazine.
