Next-generation sequencing (NGS) becomes a game changer in the field of genetic testing. Because of advances in technology, high-throughput, low-cost sequencing is now available to most research and clinical laboratories, which provides many opportunities in identifying genetic variations and mutations, especially in cancer. In this workshop, we aim to help students to learn about the concepts of NGS and common types of somatic mutations in cancer, and typical work flow of NGS-based somatic mutation analyses. After this workshop, the students are expected to develop a good understanding about different types of somatic alterations, as well as the concepts about how to identify them from DNA-seq data using Bioinformatics approaches.
