Six medical students awarded research fellowships as part of T35 training grant

The NIH funded T35 training grant entitled “Research in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Immunology for Medical Students” awarded fellowships for the summer of 2016 to six first year medical students. The goal of the program is to introduce research experience to medical students early in their training with an eye toward training the next generation of physician scientists.

The summer fellowship includes several elements:

A 10 week mentored research project
A weekly seminar series
A career development program with interactive small group sessions with faculty
Training in the responsible conduct of research
Oral and poster presentations of research following the program

The six T35 scholars are listed below and include 5 students from UB and one student from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Timothy Murphy (University at Buffalo) and Dr. Kelvin Lee (Roswell Park Cancer Institute) are Co- Principal Investigators of the program, which is in its fifth year.
