Translational Pilot Studies Request For Proposals

Requests For Proposals (RFPs) are intended to solicit applications for projects that accomplish several goals. They should:

  • allow clinical-translational researchers to generate preliminary data to support the submission of federal and/or private research grant applications
  • seek to improve clinical research design, biostatistics, clinical research ethics, informatics, or regulatory pathways, and/or
  • support the design, development and/or validation of novel, clinically applicable devices, biomarkers, or analytical methods, or other avenues (defined by the applicant) that will substantially advance clinical and translational research.

Criteria

The review process is structured to encourage investigators to submit innovative ideas and for reviewers to identify and reward innovation. Applications are scored on the basis of criteria outlined in the RFPs:

  1. scientific merit and innovation
  2. significance and impact on the field
  3. impact on research on special populations, people across the lifespan and underserved populations
  4. potential for reducing regional health care disparities
  5. effective use of a team science approach
  6. rationale and utilization of proposed budget
  7. potential that the study outcomes will lead to extramural funding.

No clinical trials beyond phase IIA will be supported by the program. Priority is given to applications that pair junior and established investigators and to projects that address health care disparities in underserved or underrepresented populations in Western New York.
