Drug abuse, animal and human models of impulsivity, sensation seeking, behavioral neuroscience, and the experimental analysis of behavior.
Dr. Richards’ research focuses on developing animal models of behavioral regulation that can be used to investigate the processes that underlie predisposition to substance use disorders. His studies seek to understand the behavioral processes and traits that may lead to poor self-regulation. In developing animal models of impulsivity and sensation seeking, his research seeks to expand clinical knowledge of how these factors relate to the predisposition for individuals to engage in risky behaviors such as drug use.
