Revamped UBIT Help Center improves experience

The UBIT Help Center in Lockwood’s second-floor cybrary has been revamped to make UB faculty and staff’s experience with IT help faster and more efficient.

The help center now features two major improvements: a new team of full-time IT staff and a redesigned call menu that connects users with immediate and specialized help.

Those calling the help center at 645-3542 who are in need of help with classroom technology will be connected directly to full-time staff. Callers will be assisted quickly over the phone or a specialized team member will be dispatched to the classroom if needed.

Faculty, staff and students are asked to listen to the call menu options and self-identify in order to get tailored support for their individual needs.

Chris Clune, director of UBIT's new IT Customer Service department, says it was necessary to rethink the way UBIT delivers customer service.

“It’s a simple truth: Faculty and staff needs are different than those of students,” Clune says. “They need IT professionals dedicated to understanding their needs and the teaching technology at UB. And because class time is valuable, their help needs to be faster and more efficient.”

In addition to calling 645-3542, faculty and staff can contact the UBIT Help Center online to request help and track the status of the request.
