This workshop will show how systemic structural racism and social class inequality produces health inequities. It will explore the role that these structural forces play in causing Whites and Blacks and people of color to live in separate and unequal neighborhoods, and explore the implications of White health practitioners living in one residential environment and Blacks and people of color living in another. This workshop will demonstrate that these health inequities reflect the failure of the healthcare system to provide Blacks and people of color with adequate health services. It will also show the importance of coupling efforts to eliminate health inequities with the quest to transform these marginalized and underdeveloped communities into great places to live, work, play, and raise a family.
