The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant strain to the United States’ public health infrastructure and healthcare system. Gonzalo Bearman, MD, MPH, will explore some unique epidemiologic features of the COVID-19 pandemic with an emphasis on lessons learned and areas for improvement. The seminar will conclude with a discussion of whether the nation will be better prepared for the future pandemics.

Dr. Bearman is a graduate of the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (’97) and an expert in the area of general infectious diseases and HIV care. Currently, he is engaged in clinical research aimed to address the COVID-19 pandemic. He serves as the Director for the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center Incident Command Center Infectious Diseases/Hospital Infection Prevention Program and is a researcher on multiple COVID-19 studies, including Remdesevir and Sarilumab clinical trials.
