This Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences commencement ceremony is only for students graduating from the MD program.

Eligibility

You are invited to participate in this commencement if you are an MD candidate planning to graduate in 2018. Candidates will receive information about commencement in December. 

Registration

Registration for the commencement ceremony is separate from applying for graduation (degree). If you want to participate in the commencement ceremony, you must register for it.

Please register online. Registration deadline: March 23.

Student Instructions for Commencement Day

Students are to report to the Center for the Arts at 12:30 p.m. and follow signs to the student robing room. Students will receive further instructions at that time. 

Plans/Reservations for After the Ceremony

The ceremony will run no longer than two hours maximum. If you plan to attend the post-ceremony reception, take some photos and then return your gown as required in the CFA basement, you can plan on leaving the CFA by approximately 4:30 p.m. 

Other Commencement-Related Events

  • A dinner for graduates and a guest will take place on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Invitations and information will be provided by the UB Medical Parents' Council in February.
  • An Honors Convocation (by invitation) will take place at Slee Hall on the morning of graduation. Most invitations will be sent to student honorees by early April.

Tickets Not Required

There are no admission tickets for this ceremony. Participating degree candidates may invite as many guests as they desire.

Guest seating opens 1 hour prior to the ceremony start time and is general admission (first-come, first-served).

Guests Attending with Children

Children, toddlers and infants are welcome as guests at all commencement ceremonies as long as you follow these guidelines.

Baby Strollers

Baby strollers are not permitted in the seats or aisles in the theater because of the safety hazards they pose. Therefore, the use of baby strollers is discouraged. If a baby stroller is necessary, it must be left in the entrance of the theater at your own risk. 

Crying and Disruptive Children and Babies

If you are with a child who is talking, crying or moving around in a manner that is distracting to the ceremony, you may be asked to step outside the ceremony.

The name of each graduate participating in this ceremony will be announced.

Caps/Tams, Gowns, Hoods and Tassels

Caps, gowns and other regalia are available through the University Bookstore on the North Campus. Order early to make sure you get everything on time.

Diplomas

Instructions on how to view your name as it will appear on your diploma will be sent to your UB email shortly. Please follow instructions in a timely manner.

Students will receive their diploma at the ceremony as long as they have completed all graduation requirements including having satisfactory grades in all courses. If you have not completed all requirements, your diploma will be mailed to you once you have; please contact the Office of Medical Education for more information. 

 

PHOTOGRAPHY

Professional photographer Gordon James will be at the ceremony to take pictures as each student crosses the stage. Studio appointments for formal portraits are available in advance of the ceremony by calling Gordon James at 716-837-5665.
