Description: The aim of this course is to learn about the cultural and musical richness of Latin American rock music, more specifically, music of the South America egion. Previous musical knowledge is not required for this class. We will cover the musical concepts that you need to understand the genre, as well as the social context, and historical development of rock music from 1970 up to the early 2000s. The class will include music by a diverse group of bands and soloists from different Latin American countries such as Serú Girán, Soda Stereo, Aterciopelados, Juana Molina, Jorge Drexler, Marilina Bertoldi, and many others. The assignments will be centered around listenings and some readings (many of them provided in video and pdf format). No textbook is required, the materials will be provided by the instructor.
  Course Description
Studies one of the historically established musical forms in Western art music, computer music, popular music, or film music; lectures and listening assignments. Nonmajors; no prerequisites.
