Personal and Social Topics in Music Appreciation This online course is designed for undergraduate non-music majors with little to no experience performing music. By taking this course, students will become proficient with general musical terminology through reflection on their own musical preferences and discussions of other traditions. The course material will be divided into broad categories or units of music in relation to society, including but not limited to music and expression, performance, commodity, social unity, social commentary, war, and freedom. FULFILLS GEN ED ARTS REQUIREMENTS.
  Course Description
History of musical style from the Renaissance to the present day. Examines selected masterpieces of Western music as well as such recent phenomena as serialism, minimalism, electronic, and computer music; requires no previous formal training in music.
