| In this course, students will explore forms of human cognition, including attention, memory, perception, attitudes/beliefs, learning and knowledge construction, and critical thinking and problem solving. Through review of the most recent research on how cognition develops over the life span and how culture and environment impact cognition, students will thoughtfully consider the cognitive needs, strengths, and weaknesses of people from various age groups, cultures, life stages, and brain health. Students will apply this content to their own learning to better understand how they themselves learn efficiently and effectively. They will also learn about strategies they can employ to facilitate learning in a variety of learning environments, including counseling and health care settings. This course provides opportunities for small group interactions, focused on the learning that takes place in a large, public research university setting, specific to students¿ chosen major or among a selection of fields. In addition, students will begin to frame their learning within the UB Curriculum philosophy to facilitate the creation of the ePortfolio required for the UB Curriculum capstone. |

| Course Description |
|
|
| The one credit UB Seminar is focused on a big idea or challenging issue to engage students with questions of significance in a field of study and, ultimately, to connect their studies with issues of consequence in the wider world. Essential to the UB Curriculum, the Seminar helps transition to UB through an early connection to UB faculty and the undergraduate experience at a comprehensive, research university. This course is equivalent to any 198 offered in any subject. This course is a controlled enrollment (impacted) course. Students who have previously attempted the course and received a grade of F or R may not be able to repeat the course during the fall or spring semester. |
