ARTS ONE is a course offered as part of the University's Creative Arts Initiative. The program is designed to explore Buffalo's arts scene such as theater, music, fine arts and dance. The class will meet once a week for events on and off campus and that this is the major requirement of the class. The first meeting will be on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 6pm at 211 Baird Hall for orientation. Class size is limited to 40. The art events will take place on North Campus, downtown Buffalo or other places around town. The schedule of events will be given during orientation, with some flexibility required for potential changes. Some events will be on weekdays, some on weekends, mostly in the evenings. Some events may be announced or suggested a week prior, based on its importance. Tickets will be provided and so will transportation, if necessary. There will be no exam, but students will be expected to maintain a detailed journal about the various events. The goal is for participants to engage in a wide variety of artistic events and have conversations with artists and others, conversing intelligently using basic critical languages pertaining to works of art. The Arts One course provides students with experiential learning opportunities to engage creative works in museums, galleries, and performing spaces and to interact directly with artists and members of Buffalo's cultural community. "The course has been a great platform for me to explore the field of music and arts. It has exposed me to so many types of arts, which I didn't even know ever existed. This course should be compulsory for all freshman students."- student. For more information email Prof. Moshe Shulman at
  Course Description
ARTS ONE is an experiential course offered as part of the University's Creative Arts Initiative, a new program designed to bring creators and performers in the arts to campus to present their work and engage in conversations with students, faculty, and members of the community. Class size is limited to 16. Every week students will be exposed to what is going on in the arts in Buffalo: exhibits at the galleries, musical performances in various venues, literary events. Most weeks, someone connected with an event, a curator at one of the galleries or a writer or musical performer or composer, will meet with the class and have a conversation and answer questions. There will be no exam, but students will be expected to maintain a detailed notebook/diary about the various events. The goal is for participants to engage a wide variety of artistic events and have conversations with some of the people who make them happen.
