Course full title: Literacy, Access and Equity: Embracing Diversity to Enrich Our Community Course Description: Through this semester long experiential learning course, participating UB students will work with Buffalo Public School (BPS) K-8 multilingual learners to advance their literacy learning. Taking a literacy for social justice stance, our goal will be to provide the K-8 students with the opportunity and access to learn the interdisciplinary literacy skills and strategies needed to communicate, problem solve, design, argue, create new meaning, negotiate, and plan. This University at Buffalo and Buffalo Public School Partnership is grounded in the idea that all multilingual students need to have equal access to these life-changing literacy practices in a way that embraces differences, agency and identity. This work will ultimately enrich our larger community. Through this course both UB and BPS K- 8 students will use their time, energy and efforts to develop students? literacy skills, including using digital technology to compose multimodal texts. This class will meet on UB North Campus with field experiences at BPS # 6 -- This course is dual listed with LAI 516.
