Advanced undergraduate and graduate course on the practice and theories of performance and performativity in contemporary art. Inherently interdisciplinary, performative practice integrates multiple genres including body art, intervention, sound art, writing, dance, theatre. This art form that comes closest to blurring the line between art and life. Student projects are informed by understanding the history and social contexts of embodiment, relational actions, participatory interactions, and situated interventions. Integral to curriculum are guest artist workshops/lectures. Only advanced students are eligible to enroll. |

Graduate and advanced undergraduate course on the theories and practice of performance and performativity in contemporary art. Integrates multiple disciplines and genres including body art, intervention, sound art, writing, dance, theatre. Explores the history and social contexts of embodiment, relational actions, participatory interactions, situated interventions and art/life encounters. Integral to curriculum are visiting artist lecture/workshops(s) and class trip to attend a related event. There may be a class fee assessed to your student account. |
