    Class Notes: ARC 241 Pre-Requisite. Students should also be proficient in high school algebra, geometry, trigonometry and logarithms. Description This required course in the Architecture program provides an introduction to the environmental and design aspects of Lighting and Acoustics including qualitative criteria relating to architectural concepts and computational analysis to assist design. A structured program of lectures, readings, exams and projects will present the subjects of interior lighting, daylighting, room acoustics and noise control as components of architectural design. Textbook/Other Materials All Course Materials are available on UBLearns. No textbook required. Active systems of climate control in building and their relation to energy management. Evaluation and selection of mechanical equipment systems, their cost implications and effectiveness. Design considerations in integrating various systems. Introduction to sanitation, fire protection, and vertical transportation systems.

    Prerequisites: Pre-Requisites: ARC 241 and Architecture major or minor.
      Course Description
    Impact on environmental building systems design, including form, structure, and material. Qualitative and quantitative issues in the lighting of space, integration of natural and artificial light, fundamental nature of sound transmission and absorption, and principles of design for an effective environment.
