      Course Description
    Building on fundamental knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, this course focuses major mental disorders, alcohol and other drugs of abuse/dependence, impulse-control disorders, and eating disorders across the lifespan. Various factors underlying causality of these disorders including development, genetic, injury, trauma, infection, and degeneration are explored. Complex networks necessary for maintaining homeostasis within the brain and between the brain and body will examined relation to these disorders. This course lays the groundwork for advanced practice nurses caring for individuals with mental health and/or addictive disorders.
