  Course Description
This course is organized around a structured, practical experience of language teaching. The goal is to acquaint students with a range of approaches to language education and to provide ample opportunity to practice these. Approaches include: standards-based instruction, understanding by design and backwards planning, single skill and integrated skills instruction, task-based language teaching, differentiated instruction, pragmatics instruction, and intercultural language teaching. Through the class, students will develop knowledge and skills but also necessary strategies for continuing to developing their teaching practices throughout their careers. The course includes readings, analysis and discussion of video, in-class teaching demonstrations, dialogue with peers and more expert language teachers, and a semester-long action research project.
