Logic is long-standing strength of the department. Skills in logic are indispensable for advanced study in other areas such as metaphysics and philosophy of language.

Research in logic is promoted by the Buffalo Logic Colloquium, an active group since 1970.

Buffalo Logic Colloquium

The Buffalo Logic Colloquium (BLC) is an interdisciplinary logic group whose members include professors and graduate students from several institutions in Western New York and nearby Southwestern Ontario.

Institutions represented include University at Buffalo, SUC at Buffalo, Canisius College, Erie Community College, DYouville College, Roswell Park Cancer Center, Woodward-Hauptman Institute, SUNY at Fredonia, McMaster University, University of Waterloo and University of Western Ontario.
