Senior English major Farhana Hasan was named English Department Outstanding Senior. The selection criteria are demonstrated academic excellence exemplified by an exceptional grade point average, election to honor societies, and participation in research, as well as other academic achievements departments may wish to consider.
Farhana is member of Phi Beta Kappa who is graduating with University Honors College distinction. Farhana is an active member of the university and the English Department. She has been a key member of the UB English Club, has consistently represented UB English at recruiting events, and has been instrumental in organizing an interdisciplinary undergraduate conference on violence.
Farhana has has presented her work on globalism at the Celebration of Academic Excellence. In addition, she has dedicated herself to volunteer work with refugee and non-refugee communities on Buffalo’s East Side, volunteering at various low-income daycares, reading stories to children, and working at East High School as an Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Program (ISEP) student mentor in an ESL class led by UB Chemistry Professor Joseph A. Gardella. She has also interned at the Buffalo Museum of Science.
Student award winners will be recognized at Department Commencement on Friday, May 16, from 3:00-5:00 in 120 Clemens.
