The Department of Communication welcomes Dr. Lindsay Hahn to the faculty as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Hahn received her doctorate from the Department of Communication at Michigan State University. Prior to coming to UB, Dr. Hahn was a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the National Institutes of Health at the University of Georgia, where she studied the ability of mixed reality video games to facilitate children’s intrinsic motivation for physical activity.

Her research investigates the cognitive processes surrounding media’s influence on audiences’ judgments and behaviors. To study these processes, Dr. Hahn takes an approach rooted in evolutionary psychology and the study of intrinsic motivations, or primitive internal forces that drive humans to think and act in ways that benefit themselves or benefit others. Her research concentrates on socially important populations such as children, and, separately, violent terrorist organizations.
