An alumnus of the Communication department, Georges Khalil (PhD, 2015), has received the prestigious K99 award from the National Institutes of Health. Known as the NIH Pathway to Independence Award, this K99 will help outstanding postdoctoral researchers like Georges to complete mentored training and transition into a tenure-track or equivalent faculty position.
With the support of his advisor Dr. Helen Wang as well as other UB faculty Dr. Tom Feeley, Dr. Mark Frank, and Dr. Lance Rintamaki, Georges received a predoctoral fellowship as well as a postdoctoral fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston Texas. His dissertation was published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research http://www.jmir.org/2017/2/e44.
This K99 award, entitled “Social Influence Strategies during a Web-Based Smoking Prevention Intervention for Adolescents,” will help Georges expand his research program in the next two years.
