A salvage archaeological excavation of a portion of the Erie County Poorhouse cemetery was undertaken in 2012 as a result of the disturbance of burials during an infrastructure project on UB's Main Street Campus. Documentary evidence was collected and analysed in support of the skeletal and archaeological analyses. Data sources included institution ledgers, municipal reports, period newspaper articles, census data, period images and maps. These data provide insight into the working poor of Erie County, New York, as well as institutional life during the nineteenth century.
