Residence Halls and Apartments officially re-open for new students on Thursday, August 24, 2017. Students checking in prior to August 24th will be billed $35 per night early arrival charge. Classes begin Monday, August 28, 2017. Deadline to check into your housing assignment is at 5:00 pm (17:00) on 8/28. * For standard apartment move-in times and dates (August 24-28) refer to apartment move in dates and times on this webpage.

After Hours Check-In

Students should plan on arriving during check in hours listed. If you arrive outside of these times, you should report to your check-in site, and contact University Police at 716-645-2227. University Police will contact a UB Campus Living staff member to meet you at the check in site/area office and check you in. Apartment residents may also call the Community Assistant on Duty using the phone number posted at each check-in site entrance.

Before You Move In

  • Learn about the Western New York region, including weather, accommodations, and directions: buffalo.edu/home/visiting-ub
  • Contact your roommates and decide what you’ll each bring. Refer to the “What-to-Bring List” on this webpage. There are items that are prohibited such as extension cords, candles, and halogen lamps. Review the list before you pack!
  • Verify that your personal belongings are insured through your parents’ renter/homeowner’s insurance policy or purchase additional coverage for your belongings.
  • When packing, remember that most items are available at stores nearby.

Arrival & Check in

Move in Tips:

  • Many students dress informally; shorts, t-shirts, and jeans are all acceptable. When moving in, plan for the weather. Buffalo’s average temperature in August is 18-24 degrees celsius.
  • Once you arrive at UB, have your photo identification (such as a passport) ready. You will need it to check-in.
  • Free carts are available near all check-in stations. *Note: carts may be helpful in transporting items to your room, but some buildings do not have elevators.

Check In:

  • UB has campus housing on two campuses: North Campus, which is located in Amherst, NY, and South Campus, which is located in Buffalo, NY. North and South campus are approximately 3 miles (5km) apart.
  • International students in residence halls will check in at a central location called an area office. You will NOT check in at your assigned hall.
  • Each of our three Area Offices serves several residence halls.
  • Students assigned to Greiner Hall will check in on the first floor of Greiner Hall at the Front Desk. For apartments, please refer to the check in locations on this webpage.

Notification of your check in location. Prior to opening weekend you will recieve an e-mail  from UB Campus Living that includes your housing assignment. This email will provide a hall and room number or apartment complex information. This is your address at UB.
