Applying for UB Housing
You can apply for on-campus housing after you have been admitted
to UB. All applications are submitted on-line—you typically
do not have to mail in anything unless we need documentation for
special accommodations or other requests. For new and transfer
students, fall housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served
basis, which means the earlier you apply, the better your chances
will be to get your preferred choice. Current UB students and all
spring applicants self-select their housing.
Your application is considered complete when you submit your

Your Housing Choices
When you apply for housing, you will have the opportunity to
self-select housing (returning students and all spring applicants)
or share your preferences for what type of housing you want (new
fall applicants). UB has residence
halls (typically for first-year, second-year, and upperclass
students) and apartments
(typically for upperclass and graduate students, with a limited
number for second-year students).
The application process is the same for apartments and residence
halls—where you can live is determined by your high school
(or equivalent) graduation date and other factors.
We also encourage students to learn about our special
interest communities. While we attempt to honor all
housing preferences, a request for a specific housing area cannot
All students who submit their housing deposit (and, for new and
transfer students, their tuition deposit) by the deadline are
guaranteed on-campus housing.
We will review your housing application based on your
eligibility and your preferences. New and transfer students are
assigned fall housing, while current UB students and spring
applicants can self-select their housing. You will usually be
notified via email when a decision has been made.
Missed the Deadline?
Even if you missed the application deadline, you can still apply
for housing and be placed on our housing waitlist. Many students on
the waitlist do receive on-campus housing, so we encourage you to
apply even if the deadline has passed.
