Update on Change and Inclusion Town Hall

Published June 19, 2020

Dear Jacobs School Community,

Thank you for your attendance and participation in the Jacobs School town hall held on June 4th 2020 that focused on Supporting our Community: Advocating for Change and Inclusion.

We share your concerns and are committed to eliminating racism and racial injustice in our community.

The Diversity, Inclusion, and Learning Environment (DIALE) committee is working diligently to address the feedback and suggestions gathered at the town hall meeting, and to address the issues raised in Polity’s Resolution No. 2020-001 and the Recommendations and Action Items document.

Specifically, the DIALE committee is working with our Jacobs School community to address systemic racism, to increase the teaching of black history, to redouble our efforts to attract a diverse cohort of students, faculty and staff, to eliminate racist language, and to strive for an inclusive, safe, and anti-racist learning environment.

These issues will be incorporated and/or addressed in the graduate and medical curriculum, orientations for new graduate and medical students and residents, in workshops and seminars, in mentoring forums, as well as in public statements, among other venues.

We will continue hosting town hall meetings to engage the community, and to address and find resolutions to the issues you raise during our town hall meetings.

The next Jacobs School town hall will be held on Monday June 29th at 5:30 pm via Zoom. The focus of the town hall will be a conversation with the police units that serve the Jacobs School university community.

Registration and further information will be sent out in the upcoming weeks.
