The annual UB Faculty Staff campaign is now underway, and calls on faculty and staff to help elevate and support students toward a brighter future through gifts to the university.

The campaign is part of Boldly Buffalo, the largest campaign in UB and SUNY history, which aims to amplify the university’s mission of transforming ambitious students into thought leaders who leave a lasting impact on Western New York and the world.

The 2021 Faculty Staff Campaign co-chairs are Dorothy Siaw-Asamoah, PhD ’12, MBA ’05, BS ’03, clinical assistant professor and faculty director of global programs in the School of Management, and Sebastian Ciancio, DDS ’61, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor in the School of Dental Medicine.

“I give to UB because, frankly, UB first gave me the gift to give back,” Siaw-Asamoah says. “As a nontraditional student who returned to school after a 10-year gap in a different culture and context, I had no idea what I wanted to do. UB provided me the opportunity to change the trajectory of my life.”

With a goal this year of 2,021 donors, there are numerous programs that employees may support — in any amount — across UB’s 12 schools and units, including UB Athletics, University Libraries, Student Life and the Honors College. Last year, almost 1,700 faculty and staff members made gifts to the university, supporting more than 600 different funds.

“It’s participation that counts and every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference,” says Geoff Bartlett, assistant vice president for annual giving. “The success of this year’s campaign will not be possible without faculty and staff support.”

Ciancio notes that for many faculty and staff, “UB is more than our employer. My wife and I have seen the impact philanthropy has had on UB, as well as on developing tomorrow’s leaders in Western New York and around the world. Through your support, we can continue to grow our reputation and bring prestige to our university.”

Funds raised through the Faculty and Staff Campaign are separate from those given to the UB Employees Campaign for the Community as part of the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA). While SEFA is important to the community, the campaign does not contribute directly to the university.

More information about the 2021 Faculty Staff Campaign is available on the Boldly Buffalo website, including a new online payroll deduction form.
