BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Imagine LaSalle park redesign project will hold its second public workshop on Monday to gather community feedback on initial conceptual designs for the park. Members of the media are welcome to cover the workshop.

What: Imagine LaSalle public workshop

When: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11

Where: The Belle Center, 104 Maryland St. Buffalo, NY 14201

Who:

  • The University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning and the UB Regional Institute (UBRI) are leading the public engagement part of the project.
  • Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates is leading the conceptual design of the park.

Why: To present initial conceptual designs for Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park to the public and solicit feedback on those designs from the community.

Representatives from UBRI will briefly recap the conceptual design process. MVVA will then present preliminary conceptual designs for the park that were created using community input from the initial public workshop in January, which was attended by about 160 people.

Afterward, community members can walk around The Belle Center’s gymnasium to review stations with initial conceptual diagrams focused on circulation, the water’s edge, topography, athletics and playgrounds. The public is encouraged to review designs, talk about ideas with team members and share written input at each station.

MVVA will incorporate the input gathered from the workshop into revised design concepts that will be presented at a workshop in March. In late spring, MVVA will present a conceptual design, including renderings and a large physical model, which will go on public display after the design presentation.

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation’s generous donation of $50 million to LaSalle Park, announced in October 2018, supports the ongoing design and community engagement process to transform LaSalle Park into Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park.
