Thanks to a commitment from the Murchie family, the longtime dream of an on-campus fieldhouse at UB will soon be a reality.
UB student-athletes are among the University at Buffalo’s greatest ambassadors. They’re a window into the heart of the university, a visible expression of what UB values most: ambition and tenacity, passion and integrity.
UB is committed to making sure our 385 studentathletes receive every opportunity to perform at the highest levels—in the classroom, in the community and in competition. And thanks to a commitment from Tunney Murchie, MBA ‘76, BS ‘75, Deanna Murchie, BS ‘74, and their family, the longtime dream of an on-campus fieldhouse at UB will soon be a reality.
This most recent gift by the Murchie family is the single-largest gift ever made to UB Athletics. With these resources, we’re setting a new standard.
The 92,000-square-foot indoor practice facility, scheduled to be completed in spring 2019, creates a much-needed practice space for our student-athletes who bear the sometimes challenging burden of balancing the demands of practice and conditioning with academic studies.
“This facility is a game-changer for the future of our university,” Mark Alnutt, UB’s director of athletics, said. “It’s going to enhance the entire studentathlete experience at UB.”
The fieldhouse is not just for varsity athletes, though. It’s also a destination for university events, intramural use and other health and wellness programs. A new fieldhouse raises UB’s stature and puts it in line with the other 11 Mid-American Conference schools.
This is our moment to strengthen our university and provide benefits to every single student.
“This is a family contribution. We will continue to do this to try and establish a legacy in return for all the fine things the school has provided our family. This also is a commitment to UB having a significant football program.”
