Light, Line, Color and Space,” an exhibition celebrating recent acquisitions to the permanent collection of the UB Art Galleries, will be on view Feb. 3 through April 15 in the UB Anderson Gallery.

The opening reception will take place from 6-8 p.m. in the gallery at One Martha Jackson Place, off Englewood Avenue near the South Campus.

Works selected for this exhibition from among the hundreds of gifts to the permanent collection during the past five years strengthen key areas of the collection and offer fresh opportunities for learning, says Rachel Adams, senior curator at the UB Art Galleries.

They include a range of modern and contemporary painting, sculpture and photography.

The exhibition presents these works within the prescribed categories of light, line, color and space, showcasing connections across generations and media, says Adams, who curated the exhibition with Conor Moynihan, a PhD student in visual studies.

She notes that putting these works into context within the gallery through formal categorization allows for new relationships to form and opens up further scholarship.

“This compelling exhibition is an exciting look inward into the permanent collection of the UB Art Galleries,” she says. “Many of these works are on view for the first time and we hope the UB community, as well as Buffalo-area residents, will enjoy the plethora of artwork that makes up “Light, Line, Color and Space.”
