Founded in 1969 in response to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Dance Theatre of Harlem has rapidly grown from its modest beginnings to become a national and international cultural ambassador for American dance and for the United States.
Dance Theatre of Harlem is a world-class ballet company that aims to present a ballet company of African-American and other racially diverse artists who perform the most demanding repertory at the highest level of quality. After an eight-year hiatus, the company has returned to fulfill their mission of a strong commitment towards enriching the lives of young people and adults around the world.
